Build a Cob Oven

In this hands-on workshop, participants will make a beautiful wood-fired bread and pizza oven out of clay and sand. The entire process of earth oven construction will be covered, beginning with foundations and ending with a roof. During the course of the day, individual workshop sessions will include: building the firebrick oven floor; sculpting the sand form that will be used to build the oven; foot mixing of clay and sand – the ingredients that make up the earth oven; construction of the earth oven itself; preparing, mixing and applying the oven’s insulation – made from straw and clay slip; and finally the mixing and application of a rough coat of earthen plaster. Participants will leave the workshop with the understanding and experience necessary to build their own earth oven.

Nervous Systems Health with Guido Mase Purple Coneflowers

Guido Mase will help you discover the secrets to balancing mood, ensuring energy, and supporting restful sleep with herbs. Too often modern medicine approaches disturbances in the spirit and nervous system with a strategy of sedation. Traditionally, herbalism takes a very different approach, believing that tonification and strengthening of the physiology's vital rhythms and relaxation power should take a central role. Learn about gentle yet powerful natural medicines for nurturing this essential body system, and how their appropriate use can help relieve conditions such as anxiety, irritability, depression, insomnia, lack of focus, and fatigue without unpleasant side effects. Take a stroll with Guido though the fields and forests around Dreaming Mountain. We will focus on medicinal plant species, including many common weeds, and touch upon botanical tidbits that aid in plant identification. Bring your questions!

Wild Herb Walk with Larken Bunce

Join Larken to explore the medicinal landscape and learn how you can use local plants for food and healing. You'll use all of your senses--touching, tasting, sniffing, looking, and even listening to the herbs you meet. You'll discuss examples of the Doctrine of Signatures (one way plants can tell you how they can be used), a little plant chemistry, harvesting techniques and
lots of practical applications for our wild green friends.

Herbal First Aid Kit with Larken Bunce

Learn what goes into a successful natural first-aid kit, including herbal remedies, homeopathics, essential oils and common kitchen ingredients. Larken will address bruises, cuts, bites and stings, muscle strains, headaches, shock and trauma, diarrhea, nausea, indigestion and more. Sample and take-home instructions to prepare basic home remedies, including teas, tinctures, glycerites, poultices, oxymels, oils and salves. You'll even make an herbal band-aid!

Keeping Children Healthy with Mary Niles Child

Keeping Children Healthy in a Toxic World:
Herbal and Naturopathic Approaches

This class explores the physiological reasons why children are uniquely susceptible to toxic chemicals in their environment. Current research suggests persistent exposure to chemicals may be connected with certain acute and chronic illnesses. We will discuss the role of diet, supplementation, herbs, essential oils and other naturopathic strategies which can help our children stay healthy and more efficiently detoxify their bodies. Additionally, strategies will be discussed that empower parents to minimize their children's exposure to chemicals and create as toxin-free an environment as is possible in today's world.

Soul Spa with Sharon Snow and Lisa Buell

“We believe that each of us has the power to create whatever we want in
our lives and in the world. Science is now confirming what the
spiritual community has known throughout the ages – we are powerful
energetic beings who have the capacity to create through focusing the
energy of our thoughts, invoking the universal principal of attraction,
and then responding with action, to the people, opportunities and
events that come our way, to bring our thoughts into form, our visions
into reality.” – S. Snow & L. Buell
